Success factors and KPIs in e-learning projects

How qualitative and quantitative analyses show whether training measures work - and which factors really determine success

Which key figures and methods are suitable for monitoring success?

In order to be able to answer the question of the success of a project, the project objectives must of course first be clearly defined. And key figures must be found with which the achievement of objectives can be measured in a meaningful and comprehensible way. Qualitative surveys often form an important part of this data: Participants assess their knowledge/understanding of the topic before and after the measure.

However, the quantitative measurement of success using key figures is also an important part and is often relatively easy to determine. Topics that are suitable for producing financial and business indicators (reducing error rates, increasing turnover, saving time or costs) are the most rewarding and convincing.

In general, learning success and knowledge transfer are traditionally measured by final tests. Whether the knowledge is successfully put into practice must be assessed using other qualitative methods in order to obtain a more complete picture.

Last but not least, observations on participant activity and commitment are also helpful. For voluntary learning programmes in particular, it is worth compiling completion rates, drop-out rates, learning progress and participation rates.

Our all-in-one e-learning solution AcademyMaker collects much of this data without you having to do anything. You can easily create and statistically analyse surveys and exams for all training courses with the help of AI.

What factors influence success?

Many factors influence the success of an e-learning or blended learning project. Ultimately, however, only one group of people decides on the actual success: the training participants. The following factors have proven to be essential for successful training programmes:

The achievement of objectives in relation to these factors should be reviewed regularly. Surveys and interviews with relevant representatives of the various stakeholders can be used for this purpose in the run-up to strategically important and larger projects. In addition, we also recommend a specific participant survey within the individual learning units and a statistical analysis of the results.

The findings should also be analysed at regular intervals during ongoing operations and, if necessary, the measures should be adjusted accordingly.

With its AI-supported authoring system, the AcademyMaker learning management system from X-CELL provides the most important tools for measuring success.
